  • Register to Vote 

    In order to vote, you must be registered.  Applications must be submitted at least 30 days before the election date.

    You are eligible to register if:

    • You are a US Citizen;
    • You are a resident of the county;
    • You are at least 17 years & 10 months of age;
    • You have not been declared by a court of law to be either totally, or partially mentally incapacitated, AND
    • You have not been convicted of a felony, or, if convicted, must have (1) fully discharged the sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole or supervision, or (2) been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote

    What is a VDR?

    • A Volunteer Deputy Registrar is a person trained and appointed by our office that helps eligible citizens register to vote.

  • Voting By Mail

    In order to vote by mail, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

    • 65 years or older
    • Sick or disabled
    • Expected Absence from the County  (Must be absent during the entirety of early voting, Election Day, AND provide an out-of-county address where your ballot can be mailed AND include the dates you can receive mail at that address)
    • Confined in jail, but otherwise eligible

    Hard copy must be sent by mail & be received not later than the 4th business day following email submission.

    Vote by Mail (Application for Ballot by Mail): First day to file for Absentee Ballot or FPCA is January 1.

    Last day to apply for a Ballot by Mail – February 23, 2024 (must be received by this day, NOT postmarked)

    Application for a Ballot by Mail (ABBM)- If you are voting early because of an expected absence, you may apply in person for a ballot by mail before the early “voting in person” period begins (usually the 17th day before the election). If you are voting by mail because you are disabled or are 65 years of age or older, you may use a single application to request ballots by mail for all county elections in the calendar year. To do so, simply mark “Annual Application” on your application for a ballot by mail when selecting the election for which you are applying.

    If you are voting in a political party’s primary election, you MUST check which party’s primary you are voting in to receive the correct primary ballot.

    Military & Overseas Voters - FPCA

    To be eligible for an FPCA in Texas you must meet one of the following criteria:

    • A member of the U.S. armed forces, their spouse, or a dependent; stationed outside of Rusk County;
    • a U.S. Citizen (nonmilitary) temporarily residing overseas, living abroad; OR
    • a U.S. Citizen (nonmilitary) permanently residing overseas, with no intent to return*

    *only eligible to vote on federal races

    The FPCA must include an address where the applicant is located outside of Rusk County.
